About Center

The Center was established to ensure the safety and quality of agricultural products, as well as to develop scientific, educational, and innovative activities.
The Center is a structural unit of the University’s Scientific and Educational Technological Platform and provides for the formation of a modern research and educational infrastructure. It contributes to increasing the effectiveness of scientific research, the implementation of innovative projects, and the practical training of students.
The Center’s structure includes the Reference Laboratory for Dairy Products, established on January 16, 2020 (Order No. 30-zhq) within the framework of the project “Establishment of Research Laboratories for Training Specialists for the Agro-Industrial Complex of the Republic of Kazakhstan.” The official opening of the laboratory took place in December 2020.
The Reference Laboratory for Dairy Products carries out research, educational, and practice-oriented activities in the field of assessing the quality and safety of milk and dairy products in accordance with international requirements, including the standards of Codex Alimentarius.
Goals and objectives
The main purpose of the Center is:
– to train qualified specialists, including the organization of academic and industrial internships for students;
– to ensure the safety and quality of agricultural products, introduce modern laboratory analysis methods, and conduct fundamental, applied, and contract-based research in the fields of food safety, microbiology, biotechnology, and veterinary science;
– to support the University’s scientific projects, ensure the accelerated scientific and technological development of new technologies, and subsequently provide services in accordance with national and international standards;
– to provide expert and advisory services to agricultural producers and other stakeholders in order to ensure independent arbitration assessment of product quality.
The key objectives of the Center are:

Organization of the educational process through practical classes, laboratory work, industrial training, and research internships for students enrolled in specialized educational programs;

Development of professional competencies of undergraduate and graduate students using the existing laboratory infrastructure;

Implementation of modern laboratory analysis methods for assessing the quality and safety of agricultural products;

Conducting fundamental, applied, and contract-based research in the fields of food safety, microbiology, biotechnology, and veterinary science;

Provision of expert and consulting services to agricultural producers, food and processing industry enterprises, and other stakeholders;

Ensuring independent arbitration assessment of product quality.

3. Program-Targeted Funding Project of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan (PTF, MoA RK) BR22886598 –“Development of innovative methods to enhance the genetic potential of camels of Kazakh populations, as well as the application of efficient technologies for the production and processing of camel products. Development of optimal technologies for pasteurization and sterilization of camel milk and the production of a fermented milk beverage ‘Shalap’ based on it.”

4. Project “Modernization of Production Processes for Functional Products Based on Cow’s Milk” — implemented within the framework of grant funding for the commercialization of results of scientific and/or scientific and technical activities in cooperation with Baiserke-Agro LLP.

Structure
The total area of Center - 250 m2
Consists of 4 blocks:
- physico-chemical department (determination of acidity, density, protein content, carbohydrates, fat, etc.;
- liquid chromatography (determination of the content of antibiotics and vitamins);
- microbiological (analysis of dairy products for safety.)
- express analyzes (somatic cells and MILKOSCAN apparatus (16 milk parameters).

Plans and reports
Plans and reports:
- Assistance in conducting research work within the framework of teaching staff projects, PhD students and undergraduates (conducting laboratory research on project topics) - during the year
- Conducting practical and laboratory work for undergraduates and undergraduate students of the Faculty of Technology and Food Safety - In accordance with the schedule for 2023-2024.
- Publication of scientific articles in peer-reviewed international journals and filing applications for utility models.
- Measures to prepare for laboratory accreditation, determine the scope of accreditation for the study of dairy products, conduct interlaboratory comparative tests. Submission of an application for laboratory accreditation for compliance with GOST ISO / IEC 17025 - 2019.
- Participation in competitions for grant and program-targeted financing by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- Expansion of cooperation with research institutes and centers in the implementation of scientific research.
- Provision of services for the study of the quality and safety of milk and dairy products to third parties, etc. (requires accreditation)
Progress
1. Laboratory staff members Suleimenova Zh.M. and Dosimova Zh.B. successfully passed the competitive selection for a 10-month internship under the Bolashak International Scholarship Program at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
2. The laboratory staff submitted an application for grant funding for the period 2023–2025. The application successfully passed the competitive selection and was approved for funding.
Project title: Development of technology for producing therapeutic and preventive food products based on mare’s milk with immunomodulatory properties.
3. Dosimova Zh.B. submitted a research article to the “Best Young Scientist” (Üzdik Zhas Galym) competition and was awarded first place.
4. The Head of the Center, Niyazbekova Zh.N., was awarded a State Scientific Scholarship for Talented Young Scientists for 2025
(Order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 596 dated December 29, 2025).
The Center’s staff carry out ongoing activities to familiarize representatives of the business community, official public and government bodies, foreign companies, as well as graduates of secondary, technical, and vocational education institutions with the activities and capabilities of the Center.
5. From June 2 to June 15, 2025, the Center’s staff actively participated in the organization and implementation of the International Summer School “Biotechnology and Food Safety”, held under the leadership of Associate Professor F.E. Yerenova of the Department of Food Technology and Safety, with B. Seisenbikyzy serving as the facilitator.
Within the framework of the summer school, the main objective was achieved — training students and young scientists from near and far abroad in key aspects of biotechnology and food safety assurance.
The summer school brought together international experts and students from various countries, including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, China, and Malaysia.
The program included lectures by leading specialists in the fields of biotechnology and food safety, as well as practical workshops conducted at the Center’s facilities and field sessions at scientific institutions.
Participants had the opportunity to discuss current research issues, exchange professional experience, and expand their knowledge.
6. At the Reference Center for Safety and Quality of Agricultural Products of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU), practical advanced training for the faculty of Almaty Technological University (ATU) was conducted on the topic “Modern Food Technologies and Methods of Their Analysis” under the supervision of Dosimova Zh.B.
