The Department of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University was established as an independent department following a structural reorganization in 2026, separating from the "General Education Disciplines" Department. The following disciplines are taught at the department: History of Kazakhstan, Philosophy, Socio-Political Knowledge Module (Political Science), Socio-Political Knowledge Module (Sociology), and Socio-Political Knowledge Module (Cultural Studies).

The mission of the department is to shape a modern social and humanitarian worldview among students, acting as an integral part of the university's mission of "training competitive personnel through science and science-intensive production."

The main task of the department is to ensure a high level of teaching social and humanitarian disciplines by utilizing modern educational technologies that comply with international standards.

The department's activities are aimed at forming students' scientific worldviews, cultivating an active life position, and developing the creative and intellectual potential of future competitive specialists for the national economy.

History of the Department. The history of the "Social and Humanitarian Disciplines" department has deep roots. It was formed on the basis of some of the university's very first departments: "Marxism-Leninism" of KazSAI (1929) and "Marxist-Leninist Philosophy and Scientific Communism" of AZVI (1968). As a result of the merger of the Kazakh Agricultural Institute and the Almaty Zooveterinary Institute in 1996, various structural changes occurred. Although the names of the departments changed over time, the teaching staff has consistently and effectively fulfilled the goal of providing students with a high-quality humanities education. Over the years, Academician of the NAS RK M.K. Kozybayev, Corresponding Member of the NAS RK T.S. Sadykov, and other prominent figures have worked at the department.

Department Staff. The department's staff is engaged in scientific research across various fields of scientific knowledge and actively participates in international and republican conferences and symposia hosted by other universities, organizations, and institutions. The faculty members are authors of numerous monographs, scientific articles, textbooks, and teaching manuals. The department employs highly qualified specialists, Doctors of Sciences, Candidates of Sciences, and Master's degree holders.

The Head of the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities is Senior Lecturer, PhD Yerbolat Berikuly Ospanov.
