"The Scent of Wormwood": A Student Reflection
On April 9, 2025, as part of a patriotic education initiative dedicated to Victory Day, a cultural outing was organized by Aziza Dossimkankyzy, lecturer of the Department of General Education Disciplines, together with students of group LR 24-08. The group visited the G. Musrepov Kazakh State Academic Theater for Children and Youth to attend a performance dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.
The centerpiece of the visit was the stage play "Zhusan Iisi" ("The Scent of Wormwood"), which portrayed the lives of Kazakh citizens during wartime. The performance touched on themes of loss, hope, resilience, and patriotism. Based on true stories, the emotional depth of the characters left a strong impression on the students, encouraging reflection on the price of peace and the importance of preserving historical memory.
Following the performance, students participated in a discussion where they shared their impressions and considered the role of patriotism and remembrance in today’s society. The lecturer highlighted the contribution of Kazakhstani people to the common victory and emphasized the need to honor war veterans.
This cultural event served not only as an educational experience, but also as a meaningful form of civic and moral development. Activities like this help to strengthen students' cultural awareness, civic identity, and appreciation for national values.
