Salima Medetbayeva is a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Senior Lecturer at the Department of IT Technologies, Faculty of Water Resources and IT Technologies, Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU). She has 34 years of teaching experience, including 20 years in higher education and research.
Academic background
She began her career in 1992 as a teacher of mathematics and computer science at Vocational School No. 15 (Zhalagash District, Kyzylorda Region). In 2000–2003 she taught computer science at the College-Lyceum of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University; in 2004–2006 she was a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Automation and Information Technologies, Almaty University of Technology and Business; and in 2006–2020 a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Information Technologies, Almaty Technological University. Since 2021 she has been a Senior Lecturer at the Department of IT Technologies, KazNARU.
In 2023 she defended her PhD dissertation in specialty 6D011200 – Chemistry at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, entitled "The Use of Information and Computer Technologies in Game-Based Learning of Chemistry".
Research interests
Educational computer games and gamification; digital learning environments and teaching methods in the natural sciences; learning analytics and educational data analysis; machine learning, neural networks and artificial intelligence in education; automation and systems modelling.
Achievements
• Holder of the Bolashak International Scholarship of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("500 Scientists" programme): one-year research internship at Constructor University (Bremen, Germany) in Management in Engineering Sciences (2024–2025).
• Author of articles in Scopus-indexed journals and in journals recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
• Author of five copyright registration certificates (2019–2023), including the educational chemistry computer games "Analytical Lotto" and "Electronic Formula".
• Research internship at Poltava National Pedagogical University (Ukraine) as part of the doctoral programme (2019).
